Surfing & Kayaking at Te Kaha

Surfing & Kayaking

Surfing
The East Cape of New Zealand’s North Island can be split into two distinct surfing destinations, the North-facing coast and the East Coast.

Less than an hour from Te Kaha, and depending on swell, you’ll find several quality beach breaks at Torere, Hawai, Maraenui and Hariki Beach.

The east facing coast that stretches south to Gisborne offers scores of excellent surf spots and attracts keen boardriders from all over New Zealand to its points, reefs, river bar breaks and powerful beach breaks.

If you prefer a more relaxed pace, head out in a kayak and paddle along this stunning coastline to discover secluded bays and coves where you could quite likely have the entire beach to yourself!
